Around the city of Jogja

Historically founded in 1755, the city witnessed a long evolution of Javanese kingdom. Today the remnants of the kingdom (Keraton Jogja) are preserved and scattered throughout the city. The old buildings seamlessly blend with the newly developed urban areas. Somehow it represents how Keraton Jogja survives the modernity by accepting the socio-political changes with a graceful flexibility. It might be the only old kingdom in Indonesia that is still functional supported by the locals in a workable balance between a charismatic monarch and modern leadership.
Jogja is often nicknamed as a city of education to which thousands of students are coming every year from different parts of the country. This makes the city a melting pot of various ethnicities.
